Overview
The Wide Receiver Evaluation Model is the position-specific model used by Historical Intelligence to evaluate completed NFL regular seasons for wide receivers.
It evaluates the complete receiving profile rather than relying on one statistic. Each wide receiver season is measured across five complementary categories and compared with a historical population of wide receiver seasons.

Why a Position-Specific Model?
Wide receivers perform a different role from quarterbacks, running backs and tight ends.
For that reason, Fantasy Mate does not apply one universal season model to every position. The Wide Receiver Evaluation Model focuses on the dimensions that best describe a completed wide receiver season and compares wide receivers only with other wide receivers.

Each category describes a different part of the completed season. The Overall Score summarises the combined profile, while the categories explain how that profile was built.
Route Participation
Route Participation measures the extent to which the player was involved in his team's passing structure.
It reflects both the player's presence in the route tree and the scale of his season-long participation.
A strong Route Participation score indicates that the player consistently had access to receiving opportunities. It does not, by itself, show how many targets he earned or how productive he was with those opportunities.
Volume
Volume measures the amount of receiving opportunity commanded by the player.
It considers both individual workload and the player's share of his team's passing offence.
A strong Volume score indicates that the player was a significant destination within the offence. Volume is evaluated separately from efficiency because receiving many opportunities and using them effectively are different analytical questions.
Efficiency
Efficiency measures how effectively the player converted routes and passing opportunities into receiving value.
It focuses on production relative to opportunity rather than raw season totals alone.
A strong Efficiency score indicates that the player generated meaningful value when involved in the passing game. Reliability adjustments reduce the influence of unsupported results from limited participation.
After Catch Creation
After Catch Creation measures the player's contribution after completing a reception.
It evaluates the additional receiving value created once the ball is in the player's hands while accounting for whether the result is supported by a meaningful receiving sample and role within the offence.
This category is kept separate because after-catch creation represents a distinct part of wide receiver performance that is not fully described by opportunity, efficiency or total production.
Production
Production measures the tangible receiving output generated during the completed season.
It reflects fantasy production together with receiving yards, touchdowns and first downs.
Production is an important part of the completed profile, but it is not interpreted in isolation. The other categories help explain the role, opportunity and efficiency behind the final output.
Why the Categories Are Separate
Two wide receivers can produce similar overall seasons in very different ways.
One may succeed through exceptional volume and production. Another may combine a smaller role with outstanding efficiency and after-catch creation.
Separating the categories allows users to understand these differences rather than seeing only one final score.
How to Read the Model
- Begin with the Overall Score to understand the quality of the completed season.
- Review Route Participation to understand access to the passing game.
- Review Volume to understand how much opportunity the player commanded.
- Review Efficiency to understand what he achieved relative to those opportunities.
- Review After Catch Creation to understand the value added after receptions.
- Review Production to understand the final receiving output.
The categories should be read together. No single category is intended to define the entire season.
Relationship with Receiving Intelligence
The Wide Receiver Evaluation Model belongs to Historical Intelligence and evaluates completed regular seasons.
Receiving Intelligence is a separate in-season system. Although some concepts have similar names, the two systems use different comparison populations, time horizons and analytical purposes.
Historical Intelligence asks how strong the completed season was.
Receiving Intelligence asks how the player's receiving profile is changing during the current season.
