Overview

The Tight End Evaluation Model is the position-specific model used by Historical Intelligence to evaluate completed NFL regular seasons for tight ends.

The model follows the same analytical philosophy as the Wide Receiver Evaluation Model because both positions are evaluated primarily through their receiving contribution. However, tight ends are compared only with other tight ends, ensuring every completed season is interpreted within its own positional context.

Why a Position-Specific Model

Although wide receivers and tight ends both contribute as receivers, they do so in different ways and within different offensive roles.

Fantasy Mate therefore evaluates tight ends using their own historical comparison population while preserving the same receiving-oriented analytical philosophy used for wide receivers.

Route Participation

Route Participation measures how consistently the tight end participated as a receiving option within his team's passing offence.

A strong score indicates sustained involvement in the passing structure throughout the season.

Volume

Volume evaluates the amount of receiving opportunity earned by the player.

It reflects the player's workload within the passing offence independently from how efficiently those opportunities were converted.

Efficiency

Efficiency measures how effectively the player converted receiving opportunities into positive receiving value.

It distinguishes opportunity from execution, allowing both dimensions to be evaluated independently.

After Catch Creation

After Catch Creation evaluates the player's ability to generate additional value after securing the reception.

Keeping this category separate highlights a unique aspect of receiving performance that cannot be fully explained by opportunity or production alone.

Production

Production evaluates the player's overall receiving output during the completed season.

It summarises the tangible results generated across the season while remaining only one part of the complete evaluation.

Why Blocking Is Not Included

Blocking is an essential responsibility for many NFL tight ends.

However, the objective of the Tight End Evaluation Model is to evaluate receiving performance rather than the complete technical responsibilities of the position.

For this reason, blocking is intentionally outside the scope of this analytical model.

Why the Categories Are Separate

Two tight ends may achieve similar Overall Scores through very different profiles.

One player may rely on exceptional opportunity, while another may generate outstanding efficiency or after-catch value.

Separating these dimensions helps explain how a completed season was constructed instead of simply describing the final outcome.

Relationship with Receiving Intelligence

The Tight End Evaluation Model belongs to Historical Intelligence and evaluates completed regular seasons.

Receiving Intelligence is a separate in-season analytical system. Although several category names are shared, the two systems use different methodologies, comparison frameworks and objectives and should not be interpreted interchangeably.
