Overview
Receiving Intelligence is Fantasy Mate's live receiving evaluation system.
It monitors how a player's receiving profile evolves throughout the current NFL regular season. Unlike Historical Intelligence, which evaluates completed seasons, Receiving Intelligence focuses on current performance, meaningful development and the context needed to interpret that development.
Why It Exists
A completed-season evaluation provides a valuable historical reference, but it cannot explain what is happening while a season is still in progress.
Player roles evolve. Opportunities change. Efficiency rises and falls. Injuries reshape offences and new receiving hierarchies emerge.
Receiving Intelligence was developed to monitor these changes as they occur, allowing users to evaluate current player development rather than waiting until the end of the season.
A player's current level and recent direction are not the same thing. An established pass catcher can retain a strong profile while showing early signs of decline, just as an emerging player can improve before his Overall Score fully reflects the change.
The Three Layers of a Receiving Profile
Every Receiving Intelligence profile is built around three complementary layers:
- Current Profile
- Evolution
- Context
Each layer answers a different question. Together they provide a complete view of the player's current receiving situation.
Layer 1: Current Profile
How strong is this player's receiving profile today?
The Current Profile consists of the Overall Score and five Receiving Categories:
- Role
- Volume
- Efficiency
- After Catch Creation
- Production
These measurements describe the player's current receiving level without considering recent movement or future expectations.
Layer 2: Evolution
Where is this player's profile moving?
Evolution includes:
- Overall Trend Index (OTI)
- Momentum
- Weekly Changes
These measurements identify meaningful development rather than simply describing the player's current level.
Layer 3: Context
What additional information should I consider?
Context includes:
- Baseline
- Reliability
- Rest of Season Projection
- League Context
- Team Context
- Availability
These measurements provide the additional information needed to interpret the profile correctly. They do not replace the football evaluation.
How to Read a Receiving Profile
A simple approach is:
- Start with the Current Profile.
- Review the Evolution layer.
- Finish with the Context layer.
Following this sequence provides a balanced understanding of the player's current receiving situation without relying on any single metric.
Relationship with Historical Intelligence
Historical Intelligence and Receiving Intelligence complement one another.
Historical Intelligence evaluates completed regular seasons. Receiving Intelligence monitors how a player's receiving profile evolves during the current regular season.
Although both systems evaluate football performance, they answer different questions and should not be expected to produce identical conclusions.
What Receiving Intelligence Is Not
Receiving Intelligence is not a projection system and it is not a replacement for Historical Intelligence.
Future expectations are provided separately through projection models, while completed-season evaluation remains the responsibility of Historical Intelligence.
