Historical Intelligence FAQ

What is Historical Intelligence?

Historical Intelligence is Fantasy Mate's completed-season evaluation workspace. It evaluates the overall quality of an NFL regular season after the regular season has concluded and places that season into historical positional context.

Why is it available only after the regular season?

Historical Intelligence evaluates complete regular seasons rather than partial ones. Waiting until the regular season has concluded ensures every player is evaluated over the same period and under comparable conditions. Postseason games are intentionally excluded.

Why can an old season's score change?

The statistics recorded during a season never change. However, Historical Intelligence compares every season against a growing historical reference population. As new NFL seasons are added, historical percentiles and evaluations may be recalculated so every season continues to be measured against the most complete historical context available.

Does Historical Intelligence predict future performance?

No. Historical Intelligence evaluates completed seasons. Projection Models estimate likely future outcomes. These systems answer different questions and should not be interpreted interchangeably.

Why doesn't Historical Intelligence match Receiving Intelligence?

Because they measure different things. Historical Intelligence evaluates completed seasons, while Receiving Intelligence monitors how a player's receiving profile changes during the current season.

Why don't you use fantasy points as the Overall Score?

Fantasy points summarise production. Historical Intelligence evaluates multiple complementary dimensions to explain the quality of a completed season rather than relying on a single outcome.

Why aren't all positions evaluated using the same categories?

Quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends perform fundamentally different roles. Each position is therefore evaluated using its own analytical model and position-specific categories.

Why don't you evaluate blocking, pass protection or leadership?

Historical Intelligence focuses on fantasy-relevant football performance within the scope of each analytical model. Many valuable football skills fall outside that objective and are intentionally excluded.

Why are players compared only with their own position?

Comparisons are meaningful only within the appropriate positional context. Every position has its own historical comparison population and analytical model.

Can I compare a WR score with an RB score?

No. Although the scoring framework is consistent, each position is evaluated using a different analytical model and historical comparison population. Scores should therefore be interpreted within their own positional context.

Are the formulas public?

No. Fantasy Mate explains what every category measures, why it exists and how it should be interpreted. Exact formulas, weighting systems, transformations and implementation details remain proprietary.

Is Historical Intelligence updated during the season?

No. It is generated after the conclusion of the NFL regular season. Receiving Intelligence is designed for in-season pass catcher evaluation. Rushing Intelligence provides current-season running back evaluation.

Which should I look at first?

Begin with the Overall Season Profile. Then review the position-specific categories and use the Historical Research Views, Breakouts, Bouncebacks and Declines to place that season into a broader historical context before comparing it with Dynasty Market or Projection tools.
